Grumpy Monkey Don't Be Scared
Halloween is over, but it looks like we're not really done with Halloween books! This is part of a book series that never disappoints the readers.
Theoretically, in any picture book, the illustrations are for the kids and the text is for the adults. But, even as an adult, we tend to appreciate certain picture books for the life lessons they give our kids (and for us, adults)! In my opinion, these 2 are picture books in this category. These 2 books raise the bar and tell each one of us to fix our expectations of what a picture book can accomplish.
🌈 A little boy has a golden-crowned egg with legs. The boy wonders about where it has come from and what it would be able to do. This is a stable and persistent "Idea" that life presents to the boy. But, he is not sure what to do with the idea and he is disturbed! Slowly, the egg seems to grow, and eventually, the boy gets more comfortable with the idea and he starts to share it with others. The boy got a variety of responses when he shared this idea - some teased him, some were suspicious, and some laughed at the idea! Some of them do encourage the boy, however, most of them criticize the idea. However, the little boy patiently decides to ignore all the distractions and utilize the idea he has found. As the confidence grows in the boy, so does the idea. The boy protects and cares for the idea, and this attention helps the idea survive, flourish, and soar to heights.
The illustrations are a combination of pencil and watercolor, the idea (the egg) alone comes in color which makes it feel magical! As the boy attends to the idea and becomes more aware and confident about it, the illustrations become brighter, colorful, and detailed.
📚 Beautiful imagination, creativity, and inspiration.
📚 Both books are simple enough for a child to read on their own. (However, it would be excellent if the parent and child read it together!)
📚 Perfect for kids ages 4+
