Halloween is over, but it looks like we're not really done with Halloween books! This is part of a book series that never disappoints the readers.
Leah is a 12-year-old girl. At her new school, she's the only Jewish kid in the sixth grade. Leah is very nervous, has her insecurities, and struggles very much to make new friends at her new school. It is pathetic to read about the mistreatment and preconceived ideas about Jews that Leah had to experience. She becomes very conscious of her appearance and she doesn't have her best friends with her either. It was a very onerous change for Leah.
Additionally, she is heartbroken when she is told that her beloved grandfather may have to move into an assisted living facility because he is in the starting stage of Alzheimer's. Leah used to play chess with her grandfather, and she used to listen to so many stories that he said. She desperately wants to save her grandfather, so she creates a 'golem' (a Jewish mythical creature that protects Jewish people) from clay. However, it doesn't go smoothly for Leah! She has to defeat the 'golem' before time runs out...
