What you need vs what you want is accurately depicted in this story. However, it is always easy from an adult's perspective to dismiss a child's obsession as an unwanted luxury. But, from the child's perspective, this one thing might fit them into their friend circle. Many families can't afford new and trendy things for their kids, but that doesn't mean they're inferior to others. Moreover, kids with very little tend to appreciate and care about things more.

This story is a perfect mix of frustration, embarrassment, poverty, disappointment, injustice, kindness and generosity. A story with the appropriate tone of writing and simple illustrations. This story conveys a lot of important life messages to the kids.

This would be a perfect read-aloud for toddlers and little kids, and they can learn about life's reality from this story. This is also a good read for elementary-aged kids.
