The Last Zookeeper

Who will save mankind, if mankind is not ready to save itself? In my opinion, this book is an answer to this question. This is a beautiful story of animals, their conservation, and hope.

Title: The Last Zookeeper

Author / Illustration: Aaron Becker

Publisher: Candlewick

In this story, the earth has flooded, and most of the cities are almost completely drowned. No humans are shown, but we see animals who are seeking shelter on top of buildings. NOA, a large robot, finds these animals who are left behind in a zoo and he constructs a large vessel and boards as many animals as he can. The boat sways in the rough stormy sea and crashes onto an island. Another robot comes to the rescue with a hot air balloon and the animals are taken to another island where they are safe and are provided with food and shelter.

⛵ I've been waiting for so long to get to this book!!! I'm amazed at the stunning self-explanatory illustrations which make this book completely wordless!

⛵ I've read most of Aaron Becker's books - The Journey Trilogy (Journey, Quest, Return), The Tree and the River, and now this one! This author never ceases to amaze me! Absolutely love this author's books.

⛵ His books are charming, impressive, compelling, and influential! Mostly, after I read them for the first time, I sit with them for a while, then I re-read them, and then think about them and read them a couple of times more to get all that's there in it! This book is not an exception at all!

⛵ This book would fit the elementary-aged kid and up but would need a little help from elders and/or multiple reads.
