Grumpy Monkey Don't Be Scared
Halloween is over, but it looks like we're not really done with Halloween books! This is part of a book series that never disappoints the readers.
The title of the book sounded delicious - probably that's the first reason I picked up this book! LOL!
Laila and Lucy are two adorable girls and best friends. They intend to go to the Sunderland Academy, where Laila plans to sharpen her baking skills and Lucy wants to learn more investigative journalism.
Title: The Cookie Crumbles
Author: Tracy Badua / Alechia Dow
Publisher: Quill Tree Books / Harper Collins
Soon, the cookie baking competition comes up and the winner would be entitled to receive a scholarship so that their schooling would be free of cost. This is wonderful! The girls' plan was for Laila was to bake and Lucy was to write a strong enough case to impress the judges.
Unfortunately, while eating one of the cookies that Laila made, the judge collapses and everyone thinks that the girls played a dirty trick. But, the girls soon understood that there is someone who wants to win at any cost and destroy others' chances of winning. The girls set out to untangle this mystery before someone else gets affected.
🍪 This book can be classified as a lighter mystery as there is not a lot of violence or severe actions in it and also, the characters more or less seem like they are in elementary school ages.
🍪 Additionally, their friendship was super cute and I adored how passionate they were.
🍪 The baking competition vibes in the story are also amazing!
🍪 There are journal entries of Laila and Lucy intermittently in the story. Yes, for some, it can feel like a distraction or that it turns down the pace of the story. However, I felt it added so much to the characters.
📚 This story has just the right amount of mystery, desserts, friendship, and passion.
📚 Good pace for the story and a very light but compelling mystery.
📚 Perfect for kids ages 8+
