Beekle, a white, cloud-like cute imaginary friend, is born on a fantasy island. Every imaginary creature on this island is waiting to be imagined by a real child. Beekle sees that others are being chosen and he is still left behind and unchosen. This makes Beekle worried that he would never be picked by anyone or given a special name. Hence, he sets out on his own on a journey to find his friend.

He arrives in a city and observes that the people in that city are very gloomy, spiritless, and uninspired. Beekle feels very lonely and sad. Eventually, he stumbles upon a vibrant playground where he sees kids playing with their imaginary friends who had been with him on the fantasy island. Still, Beekle is unable to find his special friend. He was feeling very dejected when he heard a voice calling to him.

Whoa! Beekle meets his human friend, Alice and she gives him his name "Beekle". From then on, the world starts to feel a little less strange to Beekle!

This is a 2015 Caldecott Medal winner book for excellence and distinction in illustration. The story is amusing and touching. This book stresses the importance of imagination and friendship in our lives from childhood onwards. This book would be a great read-aloud for little kids and toddlers. This would be an equally good read for elementary-aged kids too.
