Still Mine
⚛ When I read this book, I somehow remembered another similar book - "The Invisible String". This stunningly illustrated book is for anyone who has lost a friend, family member, or even a pet, it isn't for anyone specific.
Title: Still Mine
Author: Jayne Pillemer
Illustration: Sheryl Murray
Publisher: HarperCollins @harpercollins
⚛ There are several glimpses of family moments displayed in this story - a girl playing with her mom, another girl playing with her friend on a swing, a boy splashing through the rain with his grandma, and another boy camping with his entire family. These are the special moments spent with that special someone and the memories, life had created for you. But, when these loved ones disappear, the joy is replaced with sadness!
⚛ The author encourages the kid to find solace in those memories and enjoy and relive them because this is what will keep you close to your loved one even when you can't see them. This is exactly what the title of the book means -- "Still Mine"!
⚛ Dealing with death is never easy for anyone, especially kids. This story acknowledges their sadness and tells us that it is okay to be sad in such a circumstance. However, it also helps us regain our feeling of joy without being guilty, just by thinking and imagining the good times we had spent with our loved ones.
📚 This book tackles the topic of loss and death, and the subsequent grief in a heart-warming way.
📚 Gorgeous illustrations that reflect the mood of the story, colorful but in a slightly muted way.
📚 Perfect read for elementary kids ages 4+
