Grumpy Monkey Don't Be Scared
Halloween is over, but it looks like we're not really done with Halloween books! This is part of a book series that never disappoints the readers.
A beautiful touching story that deals with the BIG feelings of kids! This would be an ideal book to read in this back-to-school season!
Title: Sometimes I Kaploom (Big Feelings - Book 5)
Author: Rachel Vail
Illustrator: Hyewon Yum
Publisher: Orchard Books / Scholastic
We all know about this - going back to school after summer break. We all know that familiar uncomfortable feeling that kids feel around this time. This story is about Katie, who is normally, a very brave kid, who climbs high places on the playground, mostly needs to be checked only once (or twice) during nighttime, and even says tearless goodbyes to her mom when she leaves her at preschool.
But, like all of us, Katie also has those times and days when she feels scared and goes KAPLOOM! In real life, parents may struggle to respond to such big feelings of their kids! Likewise, Katie's mom also struggles at first, but later she waits and listens to Katie and her emotions. Her mom ensures Katie that even when going KAPLOOM with emotions, she can still be brave.
I am glad that I picked this book up from the library as it addresses the fact that you can feel different feelings all at once!
"You can be brave and sad. Brave and crying. Brave and scared. Reminding yourself that soon you'll feel better can help you feel brave now."
