Fern is a bear and Otto is a cat. They live a happy life together. One day, Fern decides that he will start writing a story about all the fun things they do. Otto suggests that it would be really helpful if they go for a walk in the woods to find out something that is very exciting and adventurous to write the story.
Title: Fern and Otto: A Picture Book Story About Two Best Friends
Author / Illustration: Stephanie Graegin
Publisher: Schwartz & Wade
Otto thinks that they would be meeting dragons, unicorns, and the like in the forest. However, the animals they met were very familiar and were found in nursery rhymes and stories. Fern's curiosity knew no bounds when he met these animals, but, Otto still thought they might find something more exciting if they kept walking into the forest. Sadly, this excitement leads them to vicious people, after which, they return to their home. Otto is so tired that he goes to bed immediately, however, Fern stays awake to complete writing the book about "a best friend".
It is indeed so good to have lovely friends close by and around you at all times in your life!
📚 In this sweet story, the text is simple and the illustrations are beautiful and coordinate well with the story.
📚 The "book-within-book" concept works out very well here, because readers do get a sneak peek of the book Fern is writing.
📚 Kids ages 3+ (preschool/early elementary) would love this book.
