The blue powders and dyes were obtained from a variety of things, from snails to sapphire rocks to plants. The greed and injustice involved in obtaining the dye are also well explained in this book. Over the period of time, humans discovered how the color blue could be prepared chemically in a laboratory.

I was not into it when I got it from the library, but when I started reading it, the book was so engrossing and captivating! Exquisite artwork and historical details of the color "blue", simple yet quite thought-provoking indeed!

This is a great non-fiction book that could be used as a read-aloud for little kids but mostly suits upper-elementary kids or middle graders.
